Lake Bled, Slovenia

Spread the love

Lake Bled is one of the most photographed places in Europe, but it has a lot of unusual history and geography behind the postcard views.

Here are some interesting things about it:

The tiny island in the middle — Bled Island — is the only natural island in Slovenia.

Local weddings often include a tradition where the groom carries the bride up the island church’s 99 stone steps without stopping.

The lake was formed by glaciers during the last Ice Age. The surrounding Julian Alps help create its dramatic scenery.

Perched on a cliff 130 meters above the lake is Bled Castle, considered the oldest castle in Slovenia, with origins dating back to around the year 1011.

It’s a 6km walk around the entire lake

Just observe how clear the water is.

Really great photos and great idea to encapsulate photos in one album for us to see
